What Is Florida’s Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program (VPK)?
Florida's Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program (VPK) is a free early learning initiative designed to prepare 4-year-old children for kindergarten. The program aims to develop literacy, math, language, and social-emotional development skills, giving children a solid foundation for lifelong learning.
VPK is available to all Florida residents who turn four by September 1 of the school year and is offered through public and private providers. Families can choose from two options:
- School-Year Program – Offers 540 instructional hours, usually held during the traditional school year.
- Summer Program – A more intensive option with 300 instructional hours, typically for families who prefer a condensed schedule.
VPK supports families and helps children develop the essential skills they need for educational success by providing access to high-quality, play-based education at no cost.
